I suppose I did not make this #1 for several reasons; yes, this is important, however, there is often too much of an emphasis placed on this and not enough on how the gaps are going to be closed. Why is this, because traditionally this is where the big bucks are spent because hard coded software takes coding to close gaps and that is an expensive and risky proposition.
1. Total Cost of Ownership- If you don’t consider this in your evaluation you are in for a real shocker. Change management in an ever evolving regulatory landscape means that your Ctrm-Etrm system will have to be constantly evolving as well, this is where the hidden costs will get you. Remedy, consider newer technologies that require “No Coding Needed” (no consulting needed) for change mgmt. this will save your budgets in the long run and your IT department will thank for you for not stretching their resources.
